Boston Harbor Cruise: Barbie Edition!
A few weeks before the release of the Barbie Movie, I saw on Facebook where a Barbie sponsored harbor cruise was giving out free tickets to anyone who was able to secure them. They sold out instantly, but luckily I scored 5 tickets! Channel regulars Camilla and Josh joined along with vlog newcomers Maggie and Chelsea!
Bay State Cruise Company was the company who ran the ship, and Mix 104.1 sponsored the event. Pretty much everyone on the boat wore some pink, and everyone was really nice!
The ship was the Provincetown II, and this is the usual ship for the entertainment cruises that stop and start in the Boston docks. This company also runs ferries to Provincetown. The entertainment cruises are 21+.
Here is the accessibility information on their site: Our vessels are wheelchair accessible on both the Boston and Provincetown docks. Our high-speed ferry has wheelchair accessible restrooms, our excursion service aboard the Provincetown II (which is a older vessel) does not. We host passengers with wheelchairs quite frequently.
Unfortunately, not only were the bathrooms not accessible on the Provincetown II, but they were downstairs. The staff of this event were very prompt in their responses in their emails, and upon arrival they let me board early to avoid the crowd. While the main level is wheelchair accessible, for entertainment events like these, the main event is on the top of the ship only accessible by stairs.
While I did set up shop up on the top, I was very thankful that there was seating because the dance floor was very crowded. Like I mentioned, everyone that we encountered was nice, so I am assuming that people without mobility issues had a great time on the dance floor. Even sitting on the side, I really enjoyed the event. It was a beautiful night in Boston, and the DJ was great. I enjoyed the Barbie themed playlist and of course the actual Barbie dolls that were crowd surfing were a highlight.
While ending the night with Shake Shack, we reminisced on our own experiences with Barbie. It was a great night! I hope in the future that they use more accessible ships for the entertainment cruises so that everyone can enjoy the event fully.
